First idea… not great but its a start.

First idea when told ‘just write’.

Solo Performance- Monologue Exercise

Performer is dressed up as a stereotypical 1960 hippie.

  • Studio space that is intimate.
  • The audience sitting on beanie bags. Arch format.
  • Space fall of bushes, flowers- very much a park feeling.
  • Lighting: sunlight like of light towards the back wall.
  • Woodlands sounds maybe mixed with ‘I had Dream’ by John Sebastian.
  • When all audience are in music and lights fade out to black.
  • Performer walks on in the black out, stands very close to the audience so when the light is turned back on, it has that shock factor.
  • Light turns on bright, golden and specks of colour.

Performer says:

Stares at audience, smiles capturing everyone – in silence as the sounds rumble in the background.Feeling optimistic and positive.

I feel confident enough to stand here and look through my surroundings, my place of pleasure and happiness where I feel at peace.

The way of life is simple, accurate and unique, my place is what it’s meant to be,

Balanced, to all, to all…

Pause looks at audience, scanning the room and looking in each of their eyes

Things great and small have a place in this world and have a right to it, where things are at their peak; to bring to life to a fantastic life, a powerful, a beautiful one in fact.

The spectre of equality and practicality, where nothing is out of place, nothing is out of place, nothing is out of place.

Walks in silence, goes towards a bush in the space, as a sample and its overwhelming by excitement of the issue.

Everything has its place, everything has its discourse for its life, it knows that it has its meanings and accepts it.

Believes and walks closer to the audience and opens their arms with embrace.

I feel nothing will get in this perfect world’s way where life is good , simple, accurate and unique, a place where no one is out of place. Nothing will get in this worlds way.

Nothing. Nothing.

Knowledge overcomes instinct of the world

How will it change?

Questions that desperately need to be answered and Knowledge is becoming overwhelming, knowledge is something they don’t want.

How can it be? Is it possible? Other and I questioned but it can’t… it’s impossible.

But…

I wondered about the word ‘impossible’ I thought about it and saw its meaning and it made sense for this word because it’s unbearable to consider and possibly change.

They saw it as clear as day…

The word reads ‘I’m possible.’

Rumble keeps going,  gets louder and more mechanical. Tries to shake off the rumble and the ‘human revolution’ becomes panicked and stubborn

But everything has its place, a place of wonder, nothing will ruin it!

Thinks for a moment… and realises

It’s impossible to ruin things.

I’m possible to ruin things.

Rumbles increase, the person sits on the fall and takes off flower ring from their head. They should just think, rumble keeps going and gets louder and the lights dim as though the audience is in a cinema. A video of negative human activity is shown from war to pollution with the song ‘I had a dream’ over it.

Video to be about 5 minutes long and then…

The lights come up as a ‘sun rise’ the person stands up as though nothing has happened; hear an IPhone ringtone go off and they get the phone out of their hippie clothes. Accepts the call, starts talking and walks out.

The things to work on:

  • Clear structure on where the audience is sitting/ format of the performance
  • The idea is to be cliqued as possible
  • Idea: the use of two projections of a growth of one tree. One projection starts and shows the growing tree from a seed to fully grown. The background changes to show the revolution of  human activity, then the next one just grows slowly and shows just greenery but then it pans out to reveal it is in a city park e.g New York.
